3 Ways to Communicate How Your App Will Benefit People

Getting the right message across to your target audience

When writing about how great your shiny new app is, sometimes it can be easy to focus on the features alone.

As well as communicating what your app does, it is vital that you also explain how the app will improve the lives of people using it by looking at the whole offering as being more than just the sum of its parts.

Whether producing landing page copy or pitching the benefits of your app to potential investors or clients, getting into the mindset of what they want from the app rather than what you think it should be is a great start.

Here are three top tips to refer to when guiding people through the best bits of your platform:

1) Focused brand messaging

The process of building an app and scaling for public release can see many entrepreneurs and small businesses fall into the trap of describing as many features as possible.

It’s important to try and cut through to the core reason why your app exists and build your brand message from there.

For example, a dating app may well have several add-ons and paid upgrades improving the overall experience, but the main reason why it exists is to bring people together - so you would focus on this.

2) Less can often be more

There is so much technical detail and background information that goes towards building an app from the ground up.

When writing about your app or creating video content to generate interest, remaining concise can be the difference between audience confusion and active take-up.

Using bullet points, snappy straplines and short paragraphs helps you narrow down on the stuff that really matters when it comes to engaging with potential users.

3) Take feedback on board

Regular testing of a minimum viable product (MVP) can be a great way to filter out unnecessary features that don’t add value as part of a streamlined mobile experience.

When communicating what makes your app stand out from the rest as a marketer or copywriter, delving into ongoing customer feedback can help create a clearer picture of how people are interacting with your product.

This detail can then be used in any fresh copy either within the app itself, or when communicating to customers what’s in the latest update - ensuring you take the guesswork out of what it is they want from the platform.
