EE has announced that it has rolled out their 4G network to 200 town and cities across the UK. From this weekRhyl, a seaside town in Wales, has become the 200th town to benefit from its 4G connecitivty. This move sees Ryhl become the first Welsh town to have access to the 4G network.
As well as Rhyl, EE has announced that 4G connectivity will also be available in Armadale, Bishop Auckland, Brighouse, Cumbernauld, Hamilton Kirkintilloch, Larne, Newry, Peterlee, Staines, Stockton-on-Tees, and Washington from this week as well.
EE, started it’s rollout in the UK’s major cities back in October 2012, has extended to 72% of the UK’s population and already has over 2 million subscriptions. The latest roll out will enable users in these areas to pick up superfast internet speeds through their mobile devices. This will mean that mobile networks will be able to handle internet data more efficiently allowing for faster and more reliable connectivity.
EE has already confirmed that it intended to double the download speed of its 4G service to around 80Mbps: making their mobile internet services significantly faster than the average household broadband service.
The roll out is expected to accelerate further after speculation that the government’s relaxation of planning rules could make it easier for the installation of mobile masts to existing buildings; to cope with the increase in demand for broadband services in the UK.
The increase in smart phone usage, complemented with the 4G rollout is changing the way we currently access the internet, with 69% of people now accessing the internet through a mobile device.
EE now have over two million customers using superfast 4G. Which has been the fastest rollout and uptake of any technology in Britain. This also means that the UK’s mobile digital infrastructure is now ahead of many other countries.
