Apple Watch Review

Eazi-Apps Support • Jun 30, 2015

The Apple Keynote “Spring Forward” event was held recently where they made major Apple Watch announcements. The Apple Watch is the newest addition to the Apple family with Tim Cook heading the development. In their first day of sales, Apple sold more watches in a day than Android did in a year.

Pros and Cons

The watch starts at the considerably high price of £355.00 to £8,000.00 for the Edition version. And that’s not all, you can bejewel your watch for thousands more. It’s great if you have a lot of spare cash lying around for an extra gadget. It is truly a luxury device but unlike a Rolex which you can put away and put on as and when you want, the Apple Watch, because of its technical nature cannot fall into this category.

The Apple Watch does not replace your phone but requires a compatible phone which includes the iphone 5 or more up to date Apple handset to operate. The Watch and your phone are connected by Bluetooth. When you get a call or email, you can use your Apple watch to take these.

Developers have created thousands of apps from a fitness app that reminds you to stand up to being able to open your hotel door without a key. The social networks Facebook and Instagram, the car pick-up service Uber and the Chinese messaging app WeChat are also among those confirmed to have developed software for the device.

Functionality

The Apple Watch is essentially an extension of your phone, with the major advantage of it always being at hand. No more rummaging through handbags or pockets when the phone rings; it is right there on your wrist. It also allows basic text emails and summoning Siri. You can even make calls with it without reaching for your phone. The Apple Watch was designed with fitness in mind and can track basic fitness goals and of course it is claimed by Apple that it is the most accurate watch ever.

Even with so many apps developed for the phone including Apple Pay, the Apple Watch does not have basic functions like adding contacts to your phone or have a camera.

It still remains to be seen if the Apple Watch is a viable product, even though it has thrashed its fellow rivals hands down with initial sales. Analysts have ranged widely in their forecast about how many watches will be sold in this current year, ranging from 8-60 million units but as the BBC comments, “In the end, similar to a smart phone or a tablet, what will make smart watches relevant are the apps available. And what will make them appealing is the design and the quality of the hardware that runs those apps.”
