One of the best things about being involved in the mobile industry is seeing and experiencing how technology impacts everything we do – as a company, as individuals and as enthusiasts. With the annual announcement from Apple regarding their latest handset around the corner (September 7th), we wanted to focus todays blog around what we already know about the handset and how it will affect your technology needs moving forward.
Every year, the launch event showcases the latest innovations from Apple including the new iPhone, iPad, MacBook and Apple Watch models. With anticipation reaching fever pitch this year, we wanted to make a few educated guesses as to what the new iPhone will mean for you and your handset needs.
Speculation at the moment points to the new handset from Apple being called either the iPhone 7, or the iPhone 6se. With next year marking the 10th anniversary since the release of the first iPhone, many analysts are predicting that Apple will save the name of iPhone 7 until 2017. However, supply chain leaks favour Apple going with iPhone 7 for the latest release. From a customer perspective, whether it is the iPhone 7 or the iPhone 6se, what matters more is the look and technology driving Apple’s latest handset.
Apple is largely credited with being an innovator in the mobile and technology landscape and this year seems to continue that trend. Rumours have surfaced that indicate Apple will remove the traditional headphone jack and replace it with Lightning EarPods or wireless ‘AirPod’ headphones.
While this move appears to be controversial, we can see the merit of Apple looking to push the boundaries to differentiate their headset from previous releases and also the competition. One thing that appears almost certain is the release of an adapter that will allow legacy users to connect wired headphones to the new handset.
As with any upgraded handset, one area that always see’s improvements is the camera feature. With people relying more and more on their mobile device to take photos and capture video, it is imperative that the latest mobile phone from Apple packs a punch in this department. With a dual-lens camera mooted, expect a significant increase in photo quality that looks sharper with improved low-light capabilities.
The battery life of the new iPhone 7 is reported to be slightly improved over previous models but still suffers due to Apple’s powerful large screen display. But as with most smartphones in today’s market place, there is invariably a trade-off between features/screen display and battery life. The jury is still out when it comes to battery life although charging times are said to have been sped up.
The latest handset from Apple is all set to get a major redesign with rumours circulating that it’s likely to be thinner, with a flush camera and the removal of the antenna bars. At this point, it is all rumours and a closely guarded secret but all is set to be revealed in a few days. One thing that we can bank on is the pressure sensitive home button that is rumoured to use haptic feedback.
As we have seen throughout this blog, the latest iPhone from Apple is set to make an impact in the mobile landscape; the extent of the impact will largely be determined by the features available. An interesting time awaits for technology enthusiasts as Apple looks to shape the next stage of the mobile revolution.
