Welcome! says Microsoft to Android and Apple Apps

Eazi-Apps Support • Jun 09, 2015

Microsoft may have dominated the market when it comes to laptops and computers but when it comes to mobile phones, the corporate giant has so far been on its knees.

Statistics

At the moment, there are three major players in the mobile phone industry – Apple, Google and Microsoft.

Let’s see how all the major players stack up against each other. At the moment, Microsoft holds only 3% of the gigantic mobile phone industry after taking over Nokia’s handset business last year. Android Phones hold 81% and Apple follow behind with 15% according to Strategy Analytics.

Apple have done well with selling the majority of Apps even though they lag behind with sales of mobile phones. Google and Apple have sold just about 50 billion apps between them, Microsoft have struggled because the Windows phones have fewer apps thus attracting fewer customers. Microsoft has not been able to attract developers to write apps for their phones as few developers will accept such a small market.

Fight or Flight

In a historic bid in the Company’s ability to become a heavyweight contender in the phone industry, Microsoft have made the move to open the floodgates, by allowing developers to use Android Apps to become Windows compatible, by retaining most of their code. They hope that this will allow them to break out of the vicious circle of fewer apps which means fewer customers and vice versa.

Terry Myerson, Microsoft’s Executive Vice President made a surprise announcement at Microsoft’s developer conference in San Francisco on top of this, to say that the new Windows will also be compatible with Objective C. This is the main programming language used by Apple.

If this plan succeeds, it will open huge revenue to Microsoft, not only through their phone business but through ads on their services. The apps will belong to Microsoft and only available through Windows phones. They would use Microsoft services like Bing as opposed to Google.

Estimated Projection

Microsoft have projected that they would like to have 1 billion devices running on their new Windows 10 operating system this summer, which for the first time will unite all their PCs, tablets and phones replacing the rather jaded and archaic Windows Explorer. The new System will use Microsoft Edge as its browser. With this unison, Microsoft should be able to edge their way further into the market.
