What does a good mobile app for an accountancy firm need?

Patrice Appleton • May 14, 2019

Having an accountancy firm app is a great way to not only add an additional level of service for your clients, it’s also a strategic decision that can position for your company as modern and progressive. Given that many small business owners rely heavily on digital and mobile tools for everything from digital marketing to job management, being able to offer an app as an accountant perfectly positions you within their preferred mode of operation.

As with any sector, the design of your app is crucial and can be overwhelming at first when you think about all of the expertise and services you offer. So, what should a good app for an accountant really offer?

1. Invoice and receipt upload

Keeping tabs on things like invoices, payment receipts and expenses receipts can be a real headache for small business owners. While many of us embrace digital to some extent, us business owners often still end up with a wad of paper invoices and documents. Having to post, drop them into the office or scan and email is a hassle. Even digital invoices can be a pain when it comes to sorting through emails and forwarding things over for the books.

Incorporating an invoice upload function streamlines this whole process and means your clients can send invoices across from their app whether they’re sat at the desk, on a job site or with a client. It’s quick, easy and convenient, makes for more accurate record keeping, is more efficient and removes a monthly or quarterly hassle. It’s a win-win!

2. Push notifications

Having push notifications from your app can be an incredibly useful tool for business owners – you can use this functionality on your accountancy app to remind clients of key dates throughout the financial year, such as end of year return filing, P60 dates and corporation tax or VAT payment deadlines.

3. Consultation forms

Make it easy for your clients to seek out your expertise and services by enabling them to submit requests directly via the app. This function makes more better business relationships by opening up lines of communication and making sure your clients feel able to connect with you at any time. It’s also great for upselling services and nipping any problems in the bud before they develop further.
