2 Social Media Trends for Promoting Your App in 2020

Patrice Appleton • January 21, 2020

App promotion is always going to be the key to having a successful and widely used app. You can have the best functioning app in the App Store but without downloads and awareness of the app’s existence, you’re not going to stand out or make those all-important app ranking lists.

We’ve talked recently about paid promotion and given some tips for how and why you should be doing this, but what about a focus on the largest growing discovery channel in digital, social media?

Social media use continues to grow and consume more and more of the emerging generation’s screen time. It has become one of the primary channels for discovery of new products and services as well as potentially one of the most effective marketing channels for emerging brands.

Let’s face it, there is no shortage of options when it comes to which platforms to promote your app on. What you will want to consider though is your approach to marketing your app on social media. To help you figure that out, here are some of the social media marketing trends you can expect to see in 2020:

Short Video Content

It’s not new news but it is going to be an unavoidable trend in 2020 regardless. Video content has continued to prove itself one of the most engaging across virtually all social media platforms. Displaying higher click through, interaction and share value than other media types.

The rise of Tik Tok has also supercharged social media video sharing and encouraged users, influencers and brands to start getting creative with their video content. Focussing on short form story telling and creativity that engages and inspires. With formats like Tik Tok and the story function within Instagram and Facebook, consumers have also become accustomed to fairly low budget video quality.

Creating Community and Relationships

Expect to see a back to social media basics approach from many brands in 2020. An attempt to create genuine communities through groups and meaningful interactions among the members of the audience and the brand seamlessly.

This shift back to community comes as social media peaks have left consumers battling with the social media ‘white noise’ and not getting any content which genuinely resonates with them on a personal and impactful level.

Really knowing your audience will help you to create communities around topics and challenges that your audience genuinely faces and through the interaction around these topics a bond can be created between brand and end user thanks to a show of understanding. Research and empathy, understanding the issues and then showing you care about them.

What issues or challenges does your app solve for your audience? Answer this question and communicate it effectively on social media and you’ll be right on trend for 2020.
