Four Tactics to Promote Your New App in January

Easy ways to win downloads in the New Year

No matter your target audience, it’s likely your ideal user has a wide choice of apps competing for screen space on their device. To make your new business app successful, it needs to stand out from the crowd. Effective promotion is key to your app’s success, and as 2020 draws to a close, now is the perfect time to plan ahead by putting your 2021 marketing strategy in place.

Here are four tactics that you can use to promote your new app this January and start the year on a high:

1. Feature your app on your website

If you are launching an app for your business, you likely already have a live website. If so, be sure to create an online presence for your app by featuring it prominently on your site. This will also help to increase downloads, as all of your site’s traffic will be directed towards your new application.

By prominently featuring, this means more than hiding your app's existence in the footer. Instead, make it visible across multiple if not all pages of your site, alongside a convenient download button to direct users to the App Store or Play Store.

2. Promote via social media

Social media is an extremely powerful tool, and while you can advertise on social media through paid ads, you can also use organic promotion. Rather than investing a lot of money into ad campaigns straight away, try to gain some presence through organic traffic first to get an idea of what does and doesn’t resonate. Use Instagram Stories and Lives to generate excitement and build awareness, backed with boosted posts or paid ads to directly drive downloads when you launch.

3. Optimise your app

You’ve likely heard of SEO before; App Store optimisation (ASO) is essentially the same but for the mobile world. As your app is competing with millions of others, you need to be discoverable.

Before launching your app this January, ensure that your app’s name is unique, memorable, and catchy. The description also needs to draw customers in and give a clear idea of what your app offers. Often, visuals are even more important than descriptions, so don’t overlook the power of your app’s logo and in-app graphics.

4. Work with influencers

Another great way to promote your app is to work with influencers. Depending on your app and the size of your business, top celebrities might well be out of reach but that doesn’t mean influencer marketing is off limits. Today there are thousands of smaller-scale influencers who will happily promote your app.

When choosing an influencer to work with, make sure their following is the same as your target audience, and opt for market-specific influencers who have the respect of your end user. Remember, your chosen influencer doesn’t need to have an audience of millions. Focus on smaller followings, which are more niche, for a better impact.
