How to Promote Your New App With a Small Budget

Patrice Appleton • August 25, 2021

Just because you have a small marketing budget doesn’t mean you can’t plan an effective campaign.

You may have designed the perfect app, but that doesn’t always mean you’re guaranteed to see a sudden influx of customers as soon as you launch on the app store—to do this, you’ll have to invest some money into marketing to promote your app.

If you’re a small app developer, you may not have a big marketing budget to play with, but that’s OK.

Here are some quick and simple ways you can promote your new app with a small budget.

Optimise Your AppStore Listing

The first step to promoting your app is to make sure you’ve optimised your app store listing.

Think about the keywords that users might be searching who would be interested in your app and make sure you use these keywords in your title and description.

This will help you to rank highly in the search listings and increase the number of customers that organically find your app.

Generate Traffic From Existing Sources

Another free way to gain more customers is to promote your app on your own website or newsletter.

If you’re getting traffic to your website or newsletter already, the chances of these people being interested in your app is pretty high.

You can also create blog posts to promote your app that are SEO-optimised. These posts can help you rank on Google and get traffic, which you can then direct to your app in the App Store.

Utilise The Power of Social Media

With social media platforms like Instagram, Tik Tok or Facebook it only takes 1 post to go viral for you to see a huge influx of new customers.

It’s a good idea to have social media accounts that are specifically for your new app, then post a minimum of 2 times a week to start getting your name out there.

Social media works best when you’re consistent and make engaging content. If you can keep it up, you should get your first viral post in no time.

Try out social media advertising

Although you can post to social media platforms without spending anything, if you do have a small budget you could test out promoted posts on Instagram or Facebook.

With these platforms you can choose a budget that you would like to spend in a day, which could be as low as £1 a day if you wanted but will increase the number of impressions and hopefully downloads of your app.

By using promoted posts you can also target specific groups of people that you think might be interested in your product.
